ACT and SAT Test Dates for the 2016-2017 School Year
In our effort to keep ACT and SAT students updated on the most recent test-related developments, this week we’re providing a summary of ACT and SAT test dates for the 2016-2017 school year. Use this list to help plan when are how many times you intend to take the ACT and/or SAT over the course of the upcoming school year.
Before we get to the dates themselves, there are a few things that you should keep in mind when choosing a test date. First, while the ACT dates are or more or less set in stone, the SAT dates are tentative. The final dates will not be released until later in the summer when registration officially opens. While the College Board rarely deviates from the tentative dates list, it is possible than one or more of the tests might be a week later or earlier than what is listed below.
Second, most of the SAT dates also offer the opportunity to take the “SAT Subject Tests.” Also known as the SAT II, the subject tests assess proficiency in a variety of high school subjects, including ones that do not appear on the main SAT. Most subject tests demand a fairly deep level of understanding in the subjects that they cover. Before you sign up for a subject test, make sure that it is required by the colleges that you plan to apply to. Also, do not sign up for a regular SAT and a subject test scheduled for the same date. Assuming that the times do not conflict, you will be looking at 5 to 6 hours of straight testing if you do.
Finally, be wary of signing up for sequential dates for the same exam. While most students receive their ACT or SAT results within 1 to 2 weeks, there is a chance that you will not receive all of your results for several weeks. This is especially true if you take the ACT Writing or SAT Essay section. Because these sections are graded by real people and not machines, Writing/Essay scores can lag up to two weeks behind multiple choice scores.
